Lower Body Lift by Dr. Wolfeld in New York City

Body lifting, sometimes referred to as a circumferential abdominoplasty, is a dramatic surgical procedure that eliminates flaccidity, drooping, and sagging of the trunk and upper legs associated with aging, post pregnancy changes, or significant weight loss.  If you desire a firmer, more youthful-looking body contour, with a firmer, smoother buttock, and lateral thigh and back, then a surgical body lift by Dr. Wolfeld may help achieve your goals.  Post-bariatric surgery patients and others who have lost massive amounts of weight often are left with excess fat and loose skin folds in hard-to-tone areas such as the buttocks, outer thighs, and abdomen. Dr. Wolfeld can correct this redundancy by performing a circumferential lower body lift.  Liposuction is frequently utilized as well to achieve the ideal result.

This type of surgery is more complex and invasive than traditional abdominoplasty. It involves making an incision entirely around the waist. The muscles of the abdomen are tightened and excess skin and fat are removed. The abdominal skin is then pulled taut and trimmed to create a fit and toned midsection. Additionally, the outer thighs and buttocks are lifted and reshaped, giving the lower body a completely resculpted and rejuvenated appearance.  The cellulite or skin dimpling and laxity are greatly improved from the outer thighs and the front of the thighs. The inner thighs are addressed, if needed, usually in a second setting with an inner thigh lift. This can be either in the pubic thigh crease or vertically in the inside of your thigh to maximally improve circumferential thigh skin tightening.

Patients should prepare for an extended recovery after a body lift. The procedure will need to be performed on an in-patient basis, and it generally requires at least a one night hospital stay. Drainage tubes will be used to expel excess fluids and may need to remain in place for at least one week after surgery. Some swelling and bruising are to be expected around the midsection for several days after the procedure; however, medication can be prescribed to ease any discomfort. Dr. Wolfeld will explain to you all aspects of the procedure, including postoperative recovery steps, at your initial consultation.

You will be asked to start light walking the day you arrive home to minimize the potential for blood clots and other complications. You must avoid bending, straining or lifting for several days. Where tightening of the abdomen or thighs is involved, you may be instructed to avoid standing fully upright and stressing any internal sutures as they heal, and to sleep with pillows elevating your knees. A return to light, normal activity is possible as soon as you feel ready, usually within 2-3 weeks following surgery. You will be ready to return to work and normal activity in about 4-6 weeks.

The results of a body lift are visible almost immediately; however it may take several months for your results to fully develop. Numbness and a firm feeling over the skin’s surface will resolve with time. Your new uplifted body contours should be long lasting, provided that you maintain your weight and general fitness.

Because a body lift is so individual, a personal consultation with Dr. Wolfeld is the best way to obtain the answers to specific questions about your particular situation.  The results can be life changing, and that is one of the reasons Dr. Wolfeld enjoys performing this procedure. If you have lost weight and are frustrated with the excess skin that is left behind, it is time to schedule a private consultation with Dr. Wolfeld.
