Lips Enhancement / Augmentation New York City
Have you ever wished you could have fuller, shapelier lips? Full, plump lips have long been considered attractive in our culture, but not everyone was born with full lips. If you are not satisfied with the appearance of your lips, now you have the power to do something about it. As we age, our lips tend to drop and thin. The red portion of the lip and the border of the lip (called the white line) lose their fullness and voluptuous shape. A thinning upper and lower lip can give an appearance of anger or old age. If your lips are thinning, you may be a candidate for lip augmentation. Lip enhancement, also known as lip augmentation, is a procedure using a variety of surgical and non-surgical techniques to enhance the appearance of the upper and lower lips. Since the lips are a defining characteristic of the face, lip enhancement is a commonly performed procedure. With an artistic eye and using advanced techniques, Dr. Wolfeld can perform a lip augmentation that will appear completely natural.
Dr. Wolfeld will perform a thorough analysis of your lips and recommend the best treatment for you. Each lip augmentation procedure is customized to the individual patient. This ensures the best possible results. Lip injections are most commonly performed with the hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane® , Perlane® , and Juvederm® . These have the benefits of being soft, natural and malleable giving some of the best looking results. There are permanent methods of lip augmentation that include surgical implants, the use of pharmaceutical grade silicone, and fat transfer. Dr. Wolfeld chooses which one will be best to achieve the most natural appearance, but most commonly uses the hyaluronic fillers.
Injectables such as Restylane® , Perlane® , or Juvederm® can be performed with a topical anesthesia with or without a nerve block. On average, results can be expected to last between six to nine months. Permanent enhancement uses materials that are of medical-grade quality and have a proven safety record. A nerve block with local anesthesia is typically used, and incisions are usually hidden in the corners of the mouth. Fat transfer can often provide permanent results when used for lip enhancement. This procedure also uses a nerve block with local anesthesia and only involves the use of tiny nicks in the skin to both harvest the fat and place it within the lip.
You may go back to work and perform normal activities immediately after the injection with no physical restrictions. The lips will swell after the procedure. This takes several days to resolve. Some bruising is possible, but may be covered with lipstick immediately. The use of ice is encouraged to reduce the amount of bruising and swelling after the procedure. Dr. Wolfeld recommends performing the procedure no sooner than a week prior to any big social events to allow for all of the bruising and swelling to resolve.
Like all plastic surgery procedures, excellent results are a combination of both science and art. Dr. Wolfeld will achieve a balanced and proportionate lip through very specialized techniques. Whichever path you choose, lip augmentation restores the gentle curves and supple appearance characteristics of attractive, youthful lips.
